Der Killarney-Nationalpark (irisch: Páirc Náisiúnta Chill Airne) liegt in der Grafschaft Kerry im Südwesten der Republik Irland auf der Halbinsel Iveragh.

Der über 100 km² große Nationalpark grenzt an die Stadt Killarney und umfasst die drei Seen Lough Leane, Muckross Lake und Upper Lake, die insgesamt eine Fläche von 22 km² des Parks ausmachen. Man findet hier einen der ältesten der noch verbliebenen Eichenwälder Irlands. Neben den Eichen wachsen im Park ebenso üppig Eiben, Moose, Flechten und Farne. Wie im ganzen Südwesten Irlands findet man aufgrund des Golfstrom-Einflusses im Nationalpark zahlreiche Blühpflanzen, wie sie sonst nur aus dem Mittelmeerraum bekannt sind, zum Beispiel die strauchartigen Erdbeerbäume und großwachsende Rhododendron-Sträuche. Der Rhododendron ist in den letzten Jahren zu einem Problem für den Park geworden. Im milden, feuchten Klima findet er ideale Wachstumsbedingungen und droht nun große Teile des Parks zu überwuchern. Mit Hilfe von Workcamps versucht man die Plage einzudämmen.

Als touristischen Mittelpunkt des Killarney-Nationalpark kann man das Muckross House bezeichnen. Das 1843 errichtete Herrenhaus der Familie Herbert kann besichtigt werden und liegt in malerischer Lage am Ufer des Muckross Lake, umgeben von gepflegtem Rasen, einem schönen Blumen- und einem Steingarten.

In der Nähe von Muckross House wurde ein Touristenzentrum errichtet, von dem aus man das Kerry County Life Experience besuchen kann. Der Besucher erhält dort Einblick in das ländliche Leben um 1930 und kann Handwerkern bei der Arbeit zuschauen.

Vom Muckross House aus kann man mit einachsigen Pferdekutschen oder auch zu Fuß die Umgebung erkunden. Gern besuchtes Ziel ist der malerisch gelegene Torc-Wasserfall.

Auf einer Landzunge im Lough Leane liegt das Tower House Ross Castle, in dem man einen Einblick in das Alltagsleben eines Clanhäuptlings gewinnen kann.

Die Insel Innisfallen kann mit ihren Resten eines einst mächtigen Klosters besichtigt werden.

Einen schönen Überblick über den Upper Lake erhält man vom Ladies’ View aus, einem beliebten Touristen-Haltepunkt am Ring of Kerry, den schon die Hofdamen Königin Victorias nutzten.

Insgesamt lohnt sich der Besuch des Killarney-Nationalparks auch wegen seiner zahlreichen, gut ausgeschilderten Wanderwege, die rund um die Seen und an den Hängen der umgebenden Berge entlang führen.

Killarney National Park (Irish: Páirc Náisiúnta Chill Airne) is located beside the town of Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland.
It was the first national park established in Ireland, created when Muckross Estate was donated to the Irish state in 1932.
The park has since been substantially expanded and encompasses over 102.89 km2 (25,425 acres) of diverse ecology, including the Lakes of Killarney, Oak and Yew woodlands of international importance, and mountain peaks.
It has Ireland’s only native herd of Red Deer and the most extensive covering of native forest remaining in Ireland.
The park is of high ecological value because of the quality, diversity, and extensiveness of many of its habitats and the wide variety of species that they accommodate, some of which are rare. The park was designated an UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 1981.
The park is also known for its beautiful scenery.

Dúchas, The Heritage Service is responsible for the management and administration of the park.
Nature conservation is main objective of the park, and ecosystems in their natural state are highly valued.
Recreation and tourism amenities are also provided for.

Le Parc National de Killarney (Killarney National Park en anglais, Páirc Náisiúnta Chill Airne en irlandais) se situe près de Killarney, dans le comté de Kerry, en Irlande. Il se trouve sur la route du « Ring of Kerry ».

Le Parc National de Killarney est le premier Parc National d’Irlande. Couvrant une supreficie de 103 km2, il inclut les trois fameux lacs de Killarney et les monts et bois qui les entourent. Le Parc inclut les sommets de Mangerton, Torc, Shehy et Purple Mountains et, à l’ouest, la Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, la plus haute chaine de montagnes d’Irlande.

Au cœur du Parc National se trouve le parc commémoratif Bourn Vincent de 4 000 hectares, anciennement Muckross Estate, qui fut offert à l’État irlandais en 1932 par M. et Mme William Bowers Bourn et leur gendre, le sénateur Arthur Vincent, pour en faire le premier Parc National irlandais.

Ces dernières années, les terres, les eaux et forêts de l’ancien domaine de Kenmare y ont été rajoutées, notamment Knockreer, Ross Island, Innisfallen et les terres de Glena, Ullauns et Poulagower.

En 1981, l’Unesco a désigné le Parc comme Réserve de biosphère.

Die Cliffs of Moher (ir. Aillte an Mhothair = Klippen der Ruine) gehören zu den höchsten Steilklippen Europas. Sie liegen an der Südwestküste Irlands im County Clare nahe der Ortschaften Doolin (nördlich der Klippen) und Liscannor (südlich der Klippen).

Die Klippen ragen bei Hag’s Head am Südende ungefähr 120 m nahezu senkrecht aus dem atlantischen Ozean und erstrecken sich bis zu einer Höhe von 214 m und über acht Kilometer Länge bis nach Doolin.

Etwa auf halbem Weg liegt der 1835 von Sir Cornellius O’Brien gegründete Wachturm O’Brien’s Tower, wo die Klippen ca. 200 m hoch sind. Bei guter Sicht kann man von dort aus die Aran Islands und mitunter auch über die Galway Bay sehen. Jenseits dieser liegen die Maumturk-Berge in Connemara.

Am Kliff leben fast ausschließlich Vögel, eine Zählung ergab 30.000 Tiere in 29 Arten. Die interessantesten sind die berühmten atlantischen Papageientaucher, die in großen Kolonien an isolierten Stellen des Kliffs und auf Goat Island leben. Man findet auch Falken, Möwen, Krähenscharben und Alke.

Les falaises de Moher (en anglais Cliffs of Moher, en gaélique Aillte an Mhothair, « falaises des ruines ») sont des ensemble de falaises situées sur la commune de Liscanor au sud-ouest des Burren dans le Comté de Clare, en Irlande. Les falaises s’élèvent jusqu’à 214 m au-dessus de l’océan Atlantique sur une longueur de 8 km.

Une tour (O’Brien tower) a été construite en 1835, au milieu des falaises par Sir Cornelius O’Brien pour offrir un point d’observation pour les très nombreux touristes qui venaient déjà sur le site. Par temps clair, on peut y voir outre les îles d’Aran et la baie de Galway qui se trouvent au large, les montagnes du Connemara (les Maumturk et les Twelves Bens).

The cliffs boast one of Ireland’s most spectacular views. On a clear day the Aran Islands are visible in Galway Bay, as are the valleys and hills of Connemara.

O’Brien’s Tower is a round stone tower at the approximate midpoint of the cliffs. It was built by Sir Cornellius O’Brien, a descendant of Ireland’s High King Brian Boru, in 1835, as an observation tower for the hundreds of tourists that frequented the cliffs even at that date. From atop that watchtower, one can view the Aran Islands and Galway Bay, the Maum Turk Mountains and the Twelve Pins to the north in Connemara, and Loop Head to the south.

Moher tower, located at Hag’s Head, is a square stone ruin. It appears to be the remains of a watchtower placed during Napoleon’s reign in Europe.

Das Nachtleben in Irland ist anders als in der Schweiz, da die Clubs erst ab 11.30 oder Mitternacht offen haben.

Bis dahin sind eigentlich alle in den Pubs, welche teilweise schon übervoll sind, was man dann auch an der feierlichen Atmosphäre merkt. In den Pubs sind die Frauen dann schon recht freizügig bekleidet

Nach 3 Pubs sind wir dann Mitternacht in den “Trinity Rooms” Nightclub gegangen, einer der berühmteren Nightclubs in Limerick. Der ist ziemlich gross und hat, wie man es im Namen schon herauslesen kann, mehrere Räume, mit verschiedenen Musikrichtungen. Frauen sind da dann noch freizügiger =(^.^)=

Das einzige was an der ganzen Sache zu bemängeln ist:

The Nightlife in Ireland is different as in Switzerland, because the nightclubs open at midnight.

So all peoples are going to the pubs first. So.. the pubs are really full and the ambiance is really good.

After 3 pubs we went to “Trinity Rooms”, a famous nightclub in Limerick. There are several rooms with different music styles.

The only bad thing is, that red vodka doesn’t seem to exist here..

Les clubs ouvre vers minuit. Donc tous sont dans les pubs d’abord, ou l’ambiance est déja très bien. Quand les pubs ferment (le pluspart @ minuit), les gens vont dans les clubs. Nous on était dans le “Trinity Rooms”, un nightclub connue en Limerick. Il y a plusieures pièces avec des differents styles de musiques.

Malheusement, il n’y as pas de vodka rouge ici - pas dans les magasins, pas dans les pubs & clubs

Wir hatten einige Freundinen von Seb zu Besuch (sehr kurzfristig). Diesen Zettel fanden wir, als wir am Abend von der Arbeit nach Hause kamen. Waren wohl sehr gute Gastgeber ;D
Man muss anmerken, dass sie das Haus sehr sauber verlassen haben, respekt. :p

On a eu des amis de Seb en visite ici. Le lendemain (quand on est rentré du travail le soir) on a trouvé cette message

Soa, die erste Woche, die anstrengend war, ist vorbei. Lauter Meetings, Besprechungen, Trainings & Richtlinien bezüglich des ganzen Ablaufes und der ganzen Firma standen an.

Das Team ist einfach super, genauer gesagt chillig, nett, humorvoll und hilfsberreit. Die Woche hatte Mittwochs ja schon super angefangen:

Umzug in das neue Büro, gleich einen nigelnagelneuen Computer bekommen und anschliessend uns mal eingerichtet.

Gelandet sind wir nun im ersten Weekend in Irland. Wir wollten eigentlich mal die Pubs & Clubs hier auschecken, mal schauen wieweit wir kommen

So the first Week, which was exhausting, is over. We did alot of trainings and had alot of meetings, to be sure what to do, to know the guidelines and instructions and to know how the life & work in the enterprise is going on.

The whole team is super. They are nice, humorous and cooperative. The week allready started good wednesday:

The first thing what we did, was that we moved into the new building and we got new pc’s.

So the week is over and we’re in the first weekend in Ireland. We wanted to checkout the Pubs & Clubs here around, let’s see what we gonna do

La premiere semaine (qui était usante) est du passé. On a eu pleins des briefings, des trainings, des recommandations et des instructions qui concernent tous les déroulements de l’entreprise.

Le team est super. Ils sont super gentils, plein d’humour et ils aident ou ils peuvent. Le début de la semaine était aussi bien:

On a démenagé dans le nouveau bâtiment et on a récu des nouveaux ordinateurs.

Donc la premiere semaine est passé et on est dans notre première weekend en Irlande. On voulait aller dans les pubs & les clubs, mais il faut voir quoi on va faire
